Banyalbufar area guide: things to do, local history and walks
The first thing you notice in Banyalbufar is how much effort it took to coax a living out of this hillside. Stone terraces step down towards the sea, and the road to the cove gives your calves a fair idea of what the farmers were up against.

What to see and how to plan your visit
Walk through the village to see the relationship between houses, cultivated slopes and the coast. Check which paths to the cove are suitable before descending.
Local history and heritage
The terraced landscape makes UNESCO’s account of water and farming tangible. Water management helped people cultivate steep ground. The Torre des Verger offers a separate reminder of coastal watch and defence.
The Serra de Tramuntana cultural landscape
UNESCO’s World Heritage listing recognises a cultural landscape shaped by agriculture, water management and dry-stone construction. Use the official boundary maps to see how the designated landscape relates to the places you plan to visit.
Suggested walk or outdoor visit
Use the Consell’s Camí des Correu route towards Esporles and plan transport for a one-way walk.
Regular markets
Sunday mornings in Plaça de la Vila, according to Banyalbufar’s municipal plan. Check with the town hall before making a special trip.
What makes this area special
The terraces here reach towards the sea. Look for the way stone walls and water channels make farming possible on such steep ground.
Attractions and things to do
- Village terraces and the streets above the cove.
- Torre des Verger and the views along the coast.
- Camí des Correu towards Esporles, and Port des Canonge as a separate coastal stop.
Fiestas and saints’ days
- Sant Jaume, Port des Canonge: 25 July.
- Mare de Déu de la Nativitat, Banyalbufar: the town hall lists fiestas from 1 to 8 September, with the feast day on 8 September.
- Banyalbujazz: an annual summer music programme. Check dates and venues.
Planning around a saint’s day? Check this year’s programme for the concerts, processions and village events you’d like to see. Some fall on the days around the feast.
Beaches and swimming spots
- Cala Banyalbufar. The village cove is a rocky stop down a steep road. Take shoes you can walk back uphill in.
- Port des Canonge. A separate pebble-and-stone beach by the fishing shelters. Allow time for the winding road down.
Check the flag and current conditions on the day. If you need step-free access or specific facilities, use the linked beach information to pick your entrance.
Before you go, see our Mallorca beach etiquette and safety guide for swimming flags, Blue Flag beaches and what to do in an emergency.
The Torre des Verger lookout is a good place for evening light over the north-west coast. Stay in the designated viewing area. See more sunrise and sunset spots around Mallorca.
What to eat here
Look for Banyalbufar Malvasia if you’d like to try a wine tied to the terraces. For a short stop, take your time over something to eat in the village and enjoy the view.
Good to know before you go
The cove and Port des Canonge involve separate approaches. Give yourself time on the narrow roads and don’t assume a short distance on the map means a quick drive.
