About Majorca Mallorca

Majorca Mallorca is your inside guide to the island we love, whether you’re here for a week, a season, or forever.

Created by a small but mighty team of local journalists, creatives and long-term residents, Majorca Mallorca exists to connect you with the best of the island: the beaches and the backroads, the hottest events and the hidden gems, the food trucks and the fine dining.

We live here, work here and yes, we still get excited when the almond blossom appears.

We’re not here to sell you a dream. We’re here to help you live it.

Who We Are

Majorca Mallorca is an independent, locally based English-language platform covering life on the island for residents, visitors and people planning to spend time here.

We publish practical information, local news, interviews, events, podcasts, guides and stories about the people, businesses and communities that make Mallorca what it is.

Our aim is to go beyond the standard holiday brochure.

We want Majorca Mallorca to be useful whether you are trying to understand a road closure, discover what is happening this weekend, find a local business, plan a holiday, listen to an expert explain an island issue or simply keep up with what is going on around you.

Where We’re Based

Majorca Mallorca is based in Mallorca.

Our team lives and works on the island, and our coverage is informed by direct local experience as well as research, interviews and official sources.

We are not writing about Mallorca from another country or producing generic AI destination content from afar, although we know there are some websites doing just that…

The island is our home, our workplace and the subject we cover every day.

Who It’s For

Our audience includes:

  • The international community of island residents
  • Independent travellers who want to go beyond the brochure
  • Holiday homeowners and part-time residents
  • Digital nomads and island entrepreneurs
  • Locals who like to keep up with what’s on
  • People planning their first visit
  • People planning their fiftieth

Whether you are here for a few days or building a life on the island, we are here to point you in the right direction.

Who Writes for Majorca Mallorca

Majorca Mallorca is led by people with long-term experience of living and working on the island.

Vicki McLeod

Vicki McLeod is co-founder and editor of Majorca Mallorca.

A British writer, interviewer, photographer and content strategist, she has lived in Mallorca since 2004 and writes about island life, local news, tourism, events, businesses and the people who shape Mallorca.

Her work is grounded in more than two decades of living and working here, with particularly strong first-hand knowledge of Palma, Andratx, s’Arracó, Port d’Andratx, Sant Elm, Calvià and the south-west of Mallorca.

Oliver Neilson

Oliver is a photographer and co-founder of Majorca Mallorca and a regular presenter of the Majorca Mallorca Podcast.

His work centres on long-form conversations with residents, specialists, business owners and people with direct knowledge of the issues affecting the island.

Contributors and specialists, our Mallorca Insiders

We also work with contributors and subject specialists where their knowledge adds depth or clarity.

That might include people with expertise in travel regulations, transport, astronomy, property, marine industries, tourism, culture, food, business or other areas relevant to Mallorca.

Where specialist input materially contributes to an article, we aim to make that clear.

What We Do: The Whole Ensäimada

The Majorca Mallorca Podcast

Interviews, stories and local voices from across the island.

We talk to residents, experts, entrepreneurs and people with direct experience of the subjects we cover, often using those conversations to go deeper than a conventional article can.

Events

Curated event listings, seasonal round-ups, festivals, exhibitions, live music, community events and things worth leaving the house for.

Area Guides

Honest, useful local insights from Andratx to Artà, Sóller to Santanyí.

Not just where to go, but what an area actually feels like, how to get there, what to expect and the practical details that make a difference.

Original Stories

Local news, profiles, interviews, opinion and commentary written by people based on the island.

Eat & Drink

From family-run favourites and neighbourhood bars to food trucks, markets, chef-led menus and seasonal food stories.

Insider Tips

The useful stuff.

Where to park. Which road closes in summer. Whether that beach is really worth the walk. What to pack in winter. How public transport actually works. And the questions you only think to ask once you are already here.

Relocation Help

Practical information for people moving to Mallorca, buying or renting property, settling in and understanding everyday island life.

Community Spotlights

Stories about island charities, community projects, local initiatives and people quietly doing excellent things in their corner of Mallorca.

How We Research Our Information

We use a mixture of:

  • First-hand local knowledge
  • Interviews with people directly involved
  • Official Government and council information
  • Public authorities and emergency services
  • Recognised scientific and professional organisations
  • Local reporting
  • Direct communication with businesses and organisations
  • On-the-ground observation
  • Supporting documents, maps, regulations and public notices

For time-sensitive subjects such as road closures, weather, transport changes, emergency measures or major events, we prioritise official and primary sources wherever possible. We also try to distinguish clearly between confirmed information, informed local analysis and opinion.

How We Update Time-Sensitive Information

Mallorca moves quickly, particularly during high season, major events and periods of disruption.

When information changes, we update important guides rather than leaving outdated information online.

Where appropriate, articles include a last updated date so readers can see when the information was most recently reviewed.

We may also create supporting articles where a subject becomes too detailed for one page, for example road closures, safety information or transport arrangements.

Our aim is to make information easier to use, not simply to keep adding more words.

Editorial Content and Advertising

Majorca Mallorca publishes both editorial and commercial content.

We believe readers should be able to tell the difference.

Editorial coverage is produced because we believe a subject is useful, interesting, relevant or important to our audience.

Commercial relationships, sponsored content, affiliate partnerships, advertising and promotional collaborations are identified where applicable.

A commercial relationship does not automatically guarantee editorial coverage, and our editorial opinions are not available for purchase.

Our Relationship with Mallorca Businesses and Organisations

We work closely with businesses, organisations, event organisers, tourism operators, entrepreneurs and members of the wider Mallorca community.

That relationship is part of what makes Majorca Mallorca useful.

It gives us access to people, stories, expertise, products, services and local knowledge that can benefit our readers.

At the same time, we aim to maintain editorial independence.

We may feature businesses we know personally, businesses we work with commercially and businesses with which we have no relationship whatsoever.

Where there is a relevant commercial connection, we believe that should be transparent.

We Are Independent and Locally Based

Majorca Mallorca is independent and locally based.

We are not owned by a tourism authority, hotel group, property company or external media organisation.

Our editorial decisions are made by people who live and work in Mallorca.

Local knowledge changes the way a story is told, it means understanding when a supposedly perfect viewpoint is actually inaccessible, when an event matters deeply to a particular community and when official information needs a little more explanation before it becomes understandable.

Why the Name?

Because no one can agree how to spell it, but everyone wants to be here 🙂

Majorca. Mallorca.

Tomato. Tomato.

We’ll answer to both.

Corrections and Updates

We want our information to be accurate.

If something changes, we update it.

If we get something wrong, we correct it.

If you spot an error or believe something needs updating, please tell us.

Why Majorca Mallorca Exists

There is already an enormous amount of information about Mallorca online.

A lot of it is generic, copied, outdated or written without much connection to the island itself.

Majorca Mallorca exists to offer something different.

Local information from people who live here.
Useful guides based on real experience.
Conversations with people who know what they are talking about.
And a little bit of opinion when the occasion demands it.

Mallorca is so much more than a holiday destination.

It is home to communities, businesses, families, traditions, arguments, celebrations, extraordinary landscapes and an endless number of stories.

We are here to tell them.
