Muro area guide: things to do, local history and walks
Pick between old-town streets, a long sandy beach and a wetland full of birdlife. Or give Muro a day and do all three. Bring binoculars if you’re heading into S’Albufera, and leave the beach bag in the car until you need it.

What to see and how to plan your visit
Choose Muro town for its centre and ethnological heritage, or Platja de Muro and the wetland for a separate coastal outing. The town and beach are different stops.
Local history and heritage
The town’s stone buildings and ethnological collections offer a way into everyday history. The wetland helps explain another side of the municipality and its relationship with water.
Suggested walk or outdoor visit
Use one of the signed routes in S’Albufera de Mallorca. Check park rules, opening times and the current entrance before travelling.
Regular markets
- Muro town: the town hall lists the weekly market on Sunday mornings in the town centre. The regional calendar also lists the Trastorun second-hand market on the last Sunday of the month.
- Platja de Muro: a seasonal evening market on Avinguda del Mar. The 2026 calendar lists it nightly from late May to early October. Check local dates for your visit.

What makes this area special

Beaches and swimming spots
- Platja de Muro. Pick a sector near the resort if toilets, lunch and a straightforward arrival are your priorities. The council’s guide shows the different sections.
- Ses Casetes des Capellans. The sandy stretch by the old summer houses at the Can Picafort end. Search for Capellans by name so you end up at the right end of the beach.
Check the flag and current conditions on the day. If you need step-free access or specific facilities, use the linked beach information to pick your entrance.
Before you go, see our Mallorca beach etiquette and safety guide for swimming flags, Blue Flag beaches and what to do in an emergency.
Ponderosa Beach sits by the sand at Ses Casetes des Capellans, towards the Can Picafort end of Platja de Muro. Check opening dates before you make the trip. See our beach club and chiringuito guide.
What to eat here
Pick up something for a picnic in town before heading to the wetland, or plan lunch in one of the resort sectors. A Mallorcan coca is easier to carry than a full lunch spread.
Good to know before you go
Platja de Muro covers several sectors. Pin the one you want. Check the wetland’s visitor information and bring binoculars if you’re going to watch birds.
