Algaida area guide: things to do, local history and walks

Algaida makes a good inland day out. Start in the village square, see what goes into a piece of Gordiola glass, then head up Puig de Randa for a view that makes the climb worthwhile.

What to see and how to plan your visit

Spend time in the main village or choose Randa if you want a smaller settlement beneath the mountain. Plan the sanctuaries as a separate stop.

Local history and heritage

The sanctuaries of Puig de Randa show why the mountain became an important religious landscape. Cura is associated with Ramon Llull. The municipality also has a glassmaking tradition worth exploring through Gordiola.

Suggested walk or outdoor visit

The ascent from Randa towards Cura is a climb. Confirm which pedestrian route is open and how you will return.

Regular markets

  • Algaida village: Fridays in the main square, sa Plaça.
  • Pina: Tuesdays in the village square.

What makes this area special

Three villages give this part of the Pla three distinct stops. Randa is the starting point for the sanctuary landscape, while Algaida and Pina are better for village life.

Beach trips from here

Platja de Palma. Choose the city’s resort coast for sand, a promenade and lunch after an inland morning.

Before you go, see our Mallorca beach etiquette and safety guide for swimming flags, Blue Flag beaches and what to do in an emergency.

What to eat here

Ask a bakery what has just come out of the oven. An ensaïmada for coffee or a savoury coca to take away both travel well.

Good to know before you go

The sanctuaries on Puig de Randa are separate stops. Choose which one you’re aiming for and check access before you drive up. Check the TIB planner if you’re relying on public transport.
