Capdepera area guide: things to do, local history and walks
Start at the castle above Capdepera, where you can see why generations wanted the high ground. Then swap stone walls for the harbour at Cala Rajada or head down the coast towards Canyamel and the Coves d’Artà.

What to see and how to plan your visit
Start at Castell de Capdepera and visit the town below. Cala Rajada is a separate harbour and resort stop, with a different character from the old town.
Local history and heritage
The castle enclosure gives an idea of how a community could take shelter. The Miquel Nunis tower predates other parts of the complex, and the chapel marks another layer of the site’s history.
A short walk
Combine the castle with a walk in town. For a coastal outing, check local access around Cala Rajada before choosing a longer walk.
Regular markets
- Capdepera town: Wednesday mornings in Plaça de l’Orient.
- Cala Rajada: Saturday mornings. The usual site is Plaça dels Pins. During renovation work from 24 October 2026, the market is at Plaça del Carme and along Carrer de Dones de la Mar and Carrer d’Isaac Peral.
- Seasonal craft market: the 2026 calendar lists Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings from May to October in Plaça del Castellet, Cala Rajada. Check dates locally before going.

What makes this area special
A hilltop walled settlement and a working fishing harbour give Capdepera two distinct centres. Visit the castle above the inland town, then head to Cala Rajada for the harbour or to the coves along the coast.
Attractions and things to do
- Walk the walls of Castell de Capdepera for views over the coast.
- Explore Cala Rajada’s harbour and the coast towards the lighthouse at Cap de Capdepera.
- Choose Cala Agulla for a beach outing, or pair Canyamel with the Coves d’Artà, which are reached from the Canyamel coast.
- Torre de Canyamel for a visit to the historic defensive tower.
Fiestas and saints’ days
- Sant Antoni, 15–17 January, with bonfires, dimonis and animal blessings.

Beaches and swimming spots
- Cala Agulla. A sandy bay at Cala Rajada for a day that can include the resort as well as the beach.
- Canyamel. Choose the resort beach for a swim and a village stop, or pair it with the nearby caves if you have longer.
- Cala Mesquida. A more exposed bay with dunes. Check sea conditions and stay on the marked paths.
Check the flag and current conditions on the day. If you need step-free access or specific facilities, use the linked beach information to pick your entrance.
Before you go, see our Mallorca beach etiquette and safety guide for swimming flags, Blue Flag beaches and what to do in an emergency.
Cucum Beach House is by Son Moll in Cala Rajada. For sunrise, head to the Far de Capdepera viewpoint and look out towards Menorca. See our beach club and chiringuito guide.
What to eat here
At Cala Rajada, ask about the catch rather than arriving with your heart set on one dish. If you’re in town for the autumn Mostra de la Llampuga, look for local ways of cooking the seasonal fish.
Good to know before you go
The castle, the harbour and the Coves d’Artà are separate stops. On market days check the current Cala Rajada venue before setting out.
