Having a baby in Mallorca: maternity care, birth and the first weeks
If you’re pregnant and living in Mallorca, start by working out which service will look after you through pregnancy, birth and the weeks afterwards. In the public system, contact your assigned IB-Salut health centre and ask for an appointment with the matrona, or midwife. With private cover, check which clinicians and hospitals your policy includes.

Set up pregnancy care
Ask how visits, screening and referrals are arranged and which hospital the team normally refers to. If you’ve recently moved, bring copies of your pregnancy notes, scan reports and test results, plus your current medicines. Ask who to call between appointments and how to get interpreting support.
If you’re visiting Mallorca, check your cover and whether your situation is medically necessary care during a temporary stay or planned maternity care abroad. Ask your insurer and care provider before making arrangements.
Make a plan for the birth
Ask your maternity team where to go when labour starts, what the hospital wants you to bring and who can accompany you. Discuss your birth preferences with the team. Keep the maternity unit’s contact details handy and ask when to call it for urgent concerns. In a medical emergency call 112 or 061.
Arrange care after discharge
Before you leave, ask what follow-up you and your baby need, where the appointments will take place and whom to call with concerns. Ask whether the maternity team can send the birth declaration to the Civil Registry. Contact the relevant health centre or insurer about your baby’s registration and paediatric appointments.
