How to see a doctor in Mallorca as a visitor or resident
For a medical emergency in Mallorca, call 112 or 061. For a routine appointment, visitors can use a public health centre if their cover allows it, or arrange a private consultation. Residents with public healthcare entitlement usually start with their assigned IB-Salut health centre.
Seeing a doctor while on holiday
If you’re covered by an eligible UK GHIC or EHIC, or an EHIC from another participating country, show it and your ID when asking for medically necessary state healthcare during a temporary stay. Ask the provider if the appointment is through the public system before agreeing to it. Some clinics and hospitals provide both public and private care.
The card’s cover is for medically necessary public care under local rules. Arrange travel insurance for cover such as private care or repatriation, according to your policy. If you need a private doctor, contact your insurer about approved clinics, payment and receipts. If you’re eligible but don’t have your card with you, ask the issuing authority about a provisional replacement certificate.
Seeing a doctor if you live in Mallorca
Check which public healthcare route applies to you. This could be through Spanish Social Security or a registered S1 if another country is responsible for your cover. Ask the INSS about recognition of your entitlement, then ask IB-Salut about the health card (TSI) and health centre for your address. Your route determines the paperwork.
For a routine visit, book through your centre or use IB-Salut’s Infosalut Connecta service on 971 220 000. The same service can advise on processing or renewing a health card. Your GP or paediatrician is usually the starting point for referrals. Ask your private insurer about its network and any authorisation it requires if you use private care.
What to take to the appointment
Bring your identification, proof of cover or health card, a list of medicines and allergies, and any relevant reports. Ask the clinic if interpreting is available and whether you can bring someone with you. If a clinician recommends follow-up, ask who will contact you and how to get a copy of the visit report.
