Campanet area guide: things to do, local history and walks

Campanet is a good place to head inland when everyone has had enough sand in their sandwiches. Wander around the hilltop village, go underground at the caves, or keep an eye on the weather if you’re hoping to catch the springs at Fonts Ufanes in action.

What to see and how to plan your visit

Begin in the centre for views out towards the plain and mountains. Plan the Coves de Campanet separately and check the cave operator’s hours.

Local history and heritage

The Sant Miquel valley gives a different picture of the municipality from the hilltop streets. The area’s old rural buildings and fields are part of the setting for the caves and parish heritage.

The Gothic hermitage of Sant Miquel in the valley was built after the 13th-century Catalan conquest, according to the Consell. It belongs to a different period from the later parish church in town. The valley also contains Fonts Ufanes, a protected natural monument. Check the current visitor information before going.

A short walk

Keep the hilltop centre and valley as separate stops. Check official advice before looking for any seasonal natural phenomenon.

Regular markets

Tuesdays in Plaça Major and Saturdays in Plaça de Son Pocos, both in Campanet village.

What makes this area special

The hilltop village and the Sant Miquel valley are different outings. The caves and the Fonts Ufanes landscape give the valley much of its character.
