Christmas in Mallorca 2026: markets, lights and local traditions

Christmas in Mallorca starts in November and carries on until Three Kings in January. This year Palma switches on its lights by the sea, Puerto Portals continues with its popular (and quite bougie) Christmas market, and there are village fairs to fit in between. Here are the dates you can start planning around, plus the traditions to look out for as local programmes come out.
21 November | Palma’s Christmas lights switch-on
Palma’s Christmas lights go on on Saturday 21 November. This year the countdown takes place at Parc de la Mar, with La Seu behind it. If you’ve been to the switch-on before, make a note of the new location.
For more November plans, see our November What’s On guide.
21 November to 6 January | Parc de Nadal in Palma
The Christmas village at Parc de la Mar runs from 21 November 2026 to 6 January 2027. The organisers list craft and food stalls and an ice rink. Entry to the grounds is free. Check the programme for individual attractions and opening times before you go.
From 27 November | Palma’s Fira de Nadal i Reis
The Balearic Government’s fairs calendar lists Palma’s Christmas and Three Kings fair from 27 November to 6 January. This is a separate listing from the Parc de Nadal. Check the city’s seasonal programme for stall locations and opening hours.
11 December to 6 January | Puerto Portals Christmas Market
Puerto Portals’ market runs from 11 December 2026 to 6 January 2027. The marina is planning more than 60 stalls with gifts, decorations, toys and food, along with family activities and a skating rink.
5 December | Just Sing Choir at Palma’s Inselradio Christmas Market
Catch Mallorca’s Just Sing Choir at 18:30 on Saturday 5 December at Parc de la Mar in Palma. The Inselradio Christmas Market runs from 4 to 8 December, with live music, children’s activities and festive food stalls. See the full market programme.
Pueblo Español Christmas Market, Palma | Dates to be confirmed
The market at Pueblo Español in Son Espanyolet has previously brought craft stalls, festive food and live music to the open-air museum. Check the venue’s events page for the 2026 dates, opening hours and ticket prices.
12 December | Fira Nadalenca in Esporles
If you’d rather spend a December Saturday in a Tramuntana village, put Esporles in the diary. The Consell de Mallorca lists the Christmas fair for 12 December. Look out for the local programme for stall and activity timings.
12 and 13 December | MORE Mallorca Christmas Market at Finca Son Mir
The MORE Mallorca pop-up returns to Finca Son Mir, just outside Palma, on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 December. Browse stalls from Mallorcan brands, with food from Fosh Catering and food trucks, live music and children’s workshops. The market opens at 11:00 both days. See the organiser’s listing for tickets and the latest hours.
Christmas Eve | The Cant de la Sibil·la
At Christmas Matins, listen out for the Cant de la Sibil·la, the traditional chant performed in Mallorca, including at Palma Cathedral. We’re checking this year’s church programmes for service times and entry arrangements.
What a Mallorcan Christmas looks like
Look for betlems, or nativity scenes, and the intricately cut paper neules that hang in churches and around displays. The Cant de la Sibil·la is part of Christmas Eve Matins. The big family meal is traditionally on Christmas Day, with dishes such as sopa farcida, a broth with stuffed pasta, and roast suckling pig or turkey with little potatoes.
For more on the paper decorations, see the University of the Balearic Islands’ guide to neules.
Where to buy Mallorcan Christmas food
Start with a traditional forn for local baking and ask what needs pre-ordering. In Palma, Fornet de la Soca at Plaça Weyler is a place to ask about handmade torró and seasonal Mallorcan sweets. For a stop while you’re shopping, Ca’n Joan de s’Aigo serves traditional pastries and hot chocolate.

Monnàber Nou, Campanet. The hotel lists a Christmas Day lunch from 13:00 to 15:00 at €74 per person, with a turkey course and an optional wine pairing. See the Christmas Day lunch menu.
Chez Junior, Sóller. The restaurant lists a six-course Christmas Eve dinner at €150 and a six-course Christmas Day dinner at €165. See the festive menus and reservation details.
The Merchants, Palma. The restaurant has published Christmas Eve and Christmas Day menus, with Christmas Day listed at €165 per person. See the festive programme.

A traditional English Christmas lunch in Mallorca
If your Christmas Day means roast turkey, roast potatoes, pigs in blankets and Christmas pudding, check the menu when you book. Some places serving turkey offer a festive tasting menu, and others run their Christmas roast on a date earlier in December. We’re checking venues for a confirmed 25 December lunch with the traditional trimmings.
Christmas menus for groups and office parties
Ca n’Eduardo in Palma has published 2026 Christmas menus for groups and companies, with one option listed at €49 per person. If your team fancies a change from one table all night, our Food Tours Mallorca guide explains the four-stop Wine & Dine format. Ask about group availability before booking.

22 December and 6 January | Spain’s Christmas lotteries
On 22 December, the Christmas lottery draw plays through the morning, with schoolchildren singing out the numbers. El Gordo is the nickname for its top prize. You’ll hear people talk about a décimo, a one-tenth share of a ticket, or about a number shared with friends or colleagues. El Niño is a separate draw on 6 January.

28 December | Spain’s version of April Fools’ Day
Día de los Santos Inocentes is the day for practical jokes, known as inocentadas. If a headline sounds too odd to be true on 28 December, check the date before you pass it on.
31 December | New Year’s Eve in Mallorca
New Year’s Eve is Nochevieja in Spanish and Cap d’Any in Catalan. Have twelve grapes ready for midnight, one for each chime. We’re checking the municipal programme for public celebrations in Palma.
Cosmopolis, Santa Catalina. The restaurant lists a New Year’s Eve menu from 18:00 to 23:00, which makes it an option for dinner before the bells. See the menu.
The Merchants, Palma. Its New Year’s Eve gala is listed at €295 per person. See the gala details.
Three Kings | The last days of Christmas
On the evening of 5 January, look out for the Cavalcada de Reis, the parade welcoming Melchior, Gaspar and Balthazar. Children traditionally write to the Kings and open their presents on 6 January, a public holiday in the Balearics. Look out for roscón de Reyes, the ring-shaped cake eaten for the occasion. We’ll add confirmed arrival times and parade routes as the councils publish them.
Public holidays to plan around
Christmas Day and 26 December are public holidays in the Balearics, as are New Year’s Day and 6 January. Check opening hours before setting out, particularly if you’re planning a meal, a museum visit or a day trip.
