Origin Palmanova

SPOTLIGHT ON ORIGIN PALMA NOVA

For a fabulous festive experience with a twist this December, Origin in Palma Nova is offering its guests something quite unique. Since it opened for business in 2017, this seafront favourite has gained a good reputation for its fine food, delicious cocktails and beautiful setting.

For December they have transformed their rooftop terrace space into a winter escape where you can cosy up in charming domes, surrounded by the twinkling lights in the distance, and the festive palm tress below.

Whether you are looking to get together to celebrate with friends, or a corporate event, the Origin Christmas Domes are sure to add a touch of class and make your party go with a swing. Executive Chef Stephen Sullivan and Head Bartender Giorgos Anguridakis have worked their magic with a special festive menu. Each heated dome can hold up to 8 guests.

Bobby from the Bin Saves Christmas

SUPPORTING OUR LOCAL AUTHORS
"Bobby from the Bin Saves Christmas" is the latest children's book by Mallorca-based author-illustrator Emily Benet. The book features Bobby, a real-life rescue pup (and now an online star!) who has to help Santa find his reindeers in time for Christmas, the festive crew having crashed into a shooting star. Told in rhyming verse this humorous tale is aimed at 3 to 6 year olds although it will bring Christmas cheer to young and old. It's available now from Amazon, hit the link below to support Emily and get a great present for Christmas.

Olive Fair

Set in the heart of the Mallorcan countryside, beautiful Caimari celebrates every November with its own festival dedicated to the traditional harvest and production of the island’s olives.  Aside from the fabulous olives and oils available, there is also a wide array of Mallorcan arts and crafts on sale.

Everyone likes a decent bottle of local olive oil for Christmas!

Community Christmas Spirit

Christmas is a time when many folk start to think about others, especially those less fortunate than ourselves. Someone who goes the extra mile to help others is long term resident of Mallorca, Hayley Medlock (pictured above with her family). Every year, around this time, Hayley puts the word out on social media and begins collecting advent calendars for the kids living in Mallorcan Children’s Homes, of which there are 40.

Already a name synonymous with the English speaking residents of Mallorca at Christmas (you may recall every Friday – Hayley Medlock’s Christmas tune on R1 Mallorca), Hayley arranges collection points, and orchestrates the whole operation around her busy working life and being a Mum of three.

If you would like to help, please feel free to drop your advent calendar donation at one of these collection points:

Turning on the Christmas Lights in Palma

The annual ‘Lighting up Palma’ is rather a big deal these days. People gather along the Borne to enjoy the first big festive hurrah of the year and then nip into the shops to take advantage of some early Black Friday offers.

There will be a parade of the Gigantes (performers wearing oversized costumes) starting at 18.30 at Sa Feixina Park, then at 19.00 there are two more events, one in Plaza Cort featuring circus acts and one in Plaza Reina, and a fourth event starting at 19.15 in Plaza Juan Carlos 1. Finally, the lights will go on at 20.00! Enjoy!

TaPalma

This gastronomic event in Palma showcases participating restaurants and bars, offering traditional and contemporary tapas at very affordable prices. It’s a great opportunity to explore different parts of the city including Portixol, Santa Catalina and the Paseo Maritimo and try some new food combos.
